Hinterland Girls

about

This is the new single from Blue Amber, part of a series of sessions with producer Henry Simm, recorded at the University of South Wales in Cardiff.

lyrics

Poetry adorns the bathroom walls
Rossetti observes the humiliating discourse
Packs of boys roam streets like wolves
Fur made of designer shirts and shoes
“We know what we want, but not how to get it”
We scream, covered in blood and drink
Hypocrisy, philosophy, alight the street
Heads full of doubt, fields of sheep
The slim, the mantis, the death of dignity
Internet radio junkies and queens
Paperback romance is hard to deny
She’s a modern day Lolita, he’s a Catcher in the Rye
I’d like to say that I’d seen the light
From my 200 square foot night of life
Along Cambrian street and into the day
Who needs the hinterland life anyway?

Artists and actors aren’t worth a hope
Doctors and scholars all educated misanthropes
Youth and manhood look me in the eye
Fear and loathing fills their hateful insides
Natural wonders are mundane to you
Fascist genocism for you to pursue
Just when I have you figured out
You go ahead and pull a stunt like that
My heart of darkness soaked up by pages
Reading drink dregs for pop culture references
From nine till two it’s an epic poem
Under artificial stars on the way home
Mortal men claim to be philosophical
Quoting second hand Nietzsche is affordable
Dark corners and cold college hallways
Dank fields which stretch on for days
But after five locations and a view
There’s not much left for you to lose
Food for the birds when morning comes
Eliot’s wasteland feels more like home.

What are the roots that touch, what branches grow?
I cannot say for only you know
This melancholic verse that now fills my ears
Will stalk my path in the coming years
Etched in the paint of the benches below
Or spoke from the lips of the men I provoke
Erratic screams that come from behind me
Signal the end of the dream, finally
